AI Chip Reseller Raises $50 Million in Financing Led By Kleiner Perkins
Kleiner Perkins is leading a funding round in Together, a startup that capitalizes on artificial intelligence startups’ voracious need for specialized semiconductors. The equity financing of at least $50 million would value the one-year-old company at more than $300 million before the investment, according to people with knowledge of the deal.
The deal speaks to the continued demand for AI server chips, designed by Nvidia, to develop and run large language models that underpin products such as ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot. San Francisco-based Together rents out these AI chips to companies through a cloud service, and it sells software that makes it easier for the companies to use open-source LLMs. Nvidia, which has become one of the most active funders of companies that use or sell access to its graphics processing unit chips, also has considered participating in the financing, one of these people said.
